A teenager’s room is a very challenging space to design, because two different visions—those of parents and children—often clash here. A teen room with a desk is a must, at least as long as the young person is in school. A desk is essential for studying and doing homework, and it’s also useful in a gaming room.
A teen’s room can be designed in almost any style—from trendy loft style to a calm Scandinavian style, all the way to themed rooms decorated in styles inspired by popular movies or video games.
How do you decorate a small teen’s room?
Designing a small teen bedroom is quite a challenge! After all, a small space has to accommodate several functional areas: a sleeping and relaxation area, a quiet study area, and a corner for entertaining guests. In a small apartment, it’s not always possible to separate all these areas. Fortunately, functional furniture for teens comes to the rescue, helping to manage the space. A teen’s room with a desk is a must, but no one said the desk has to be a permanent fixture in the room. After all, you can pull out the work surface only when studying, and in the evening, fold it away to transform the desk into a classic, space-saving dresser. Modern half-sofa beds work in a similar way. They offer a comfortable bed with a plush mattress at night, and during the day, they free up space for other activities, such as hanging out with friends or practicing yoga. In a small teen’s room, well-designed furniture with ingenious solutions is also worth its weight in gold—for example, a bed with a large bottom drawer for bedding and a shelf in the headboard, a table with built-in storage, or a closet that includes not only a hanging rod and shelves but also drawers. This solution helps keep things organized and find a place for all those little teenage trinkets.
A Teen’s Room in the Attic
The attic is simply the perfect place to design a stylish and functional teen bedroom. Attic rooms have a unique and undeniable charm —they’re cozy, atmospheric, and a little mysterious. However, when furnishing a room with sloped ceilings, it’s important to make smart use of the varying ceiling heights. Otherwise, an attic room can become completely impractical and, as a result, uncomfortable for everyday use. Remember to place a closet in key spots (against a full-height wall), a desk (so that the desktop is optimally lit), and a bed (so you don’t bump your head while sitting on the bed or walking past it). And what’s the best style for a loft room? In such a space, you can easily create a loft-style teen room or an interior with a cozy Scandinavian feel. Both styles are so popular right now that you’ll have no trouble finding functional youth furniture in both loft and Scandinavian styles. A room with sloped ceilings is also the perfect space for a teen girl’s room if she loves a romantic vibe. A larger attic room can also be successfully transformed into a modern gaming room with an extensive entertainment area.
A Themed Room for a Teen
Teenagers, like no other age group, live in a world populated by heroes and heroines from video games, movies, and books. If your son dreams of a room straight out of *Stranger Things*, and your daughter dreams of a teen room with a *Harry Potter* vibe, then… why not? Remember, though, that functionality is key; only on that foundation can you build a themed, modern style. But be careful! Teenagers’ tastes often change. That’s why it’s a good idea to design a teen room for a girl or boy in such a way that, should their tastes change, you can easily and relatively inexpensively switch up the entire interior theme.
A place to relax
A teenager’s room is our child’s private sanctuary. It’s a place where a growing child should feel comfortable, safe, and simply the happiest in the whole world. That’s why, when decorating a teenager’s room, it’s essential to take their opinion into account. If he or she wants a loft-style or Art Deco room, it’s best to make that dream come true, even if the rest of the house is decorated in a completely different style. Because only in a teen room designed according to their own guidelines will a young person be able to truly rest and relax, and, if necessary, shut themselves off from the rest of the world and recharge before tackling the challenges of everyday life.
