How high should the shelf above the bed be?
Are you wondering at what height to hang it? a shelf above the bed in the bedroom? It’s simple. Sit comfortably in bed, lean back, and check how high the top of your head is. You can mount the hanging shelf at least about 10 cm above that point. If the bed is shared by two people, consider the height of the taller person. It’s important that the shelf above the bed be positioned so that you can sit comfortably on the bed and get out of it without bumping your head on the shelf. Also, make sure any wall sconces are placed below or next to the shelf above the bed. This way, the shelf won’t block the light, for example, when reading at night.

For this purpose, we use expansion anchors with hooks and always select them based on the specific type of wall. Remember that a safe shelf is also one that’s used correctly. This means that a wall-mounted shelf should not bear a load greater than the manufacturer’s specified limit. It’s important to follow all these safety guidelines for wall-mounted shelves so that one day a shelf doesn’t fall on someone’s head.
Youth Shelf Above the Bed
A shelf above the bed isn’t just for the bedroom. It’s practically a must-have piece of furniture for every teen’s room and child’s room. It’s especially useful in small children’s rooms where there’s little space for other storage furniture. You can hang a shelf above a teen’s bed behind the headboard or on the side of the bed.It all depends on how the bed is positioned against the wall in the child’s room. You can also hang two or even more shelves above the bed—one above the other, side by side, or above both the headboard and the side rail at the same time.
How do you choose a shelf for your bedroom?
The easiest way to choose a shelf to place above the bed in your bedroom is to select one from the same collection as the rest of the furniture in the room. This ensures that all the pieces will complement each other perfectly. However, if for various reasons this isn’t possible, it’s best to choose a shelf in a color similar to the other furniture in the room. Also, keep in mind the material the hanging shelf is made of—pair a wooden shelf with wooden furniture, and a hanging shelf made of particleboard with particleboard furniture. Metal shelves above the bed are currently very popular, especially in modern bedrooms. They have the great advantage of matching virtually all modern furniture.
And if you’re looking for an unconventional solution for your interior, consider an original shelf above the bed. It could be, for example, a hanging shelf made up of octagons arranged in a honeycomb-like pattern. Regular square shelves (so-called “cubes”) arranged in a non-standard layout look great. An interesting option is a triple hanging shelf consisting of three shelves connected by a frame, which provides as much storage space as many a bookcase for a bedroom, living room, or entryway. Shelves attached to the wall with thick ropes or shelves integrated into slatted wall units also look great. What’s more, you don’t have to buy a hanging shelf at a furniture store at all! You can achieve an original design with, for example, wooden crates hung on the wall in any pattern you like, or interesting shelves made from Euro pallets.
